I love me some Gang Starr. Here is a review of the Album “Hard to Earn” that “Mass Appeal” is on:

More succinct in focus and theme than previous Gang Starr albums, Hard to Earn may be the group’s crowning achievement. Premier has all but abandoned the jazz overtones of previous albums and is focusing on finely chopped samples reconstructed as whirring, claustrophobic funk. Guru’s meandering overtly political raps have fallen by the wayside. Instead, Guru focuses on his competition — or lack thereof — on “Mass Appeal” and “”Suckas Need Bodyguards.” Hip-hop’s Moses has descended the mountain, and now he’s taking names and whupping ass. Rap would never be the same.

So the whole auto-tune thing is a little played out. But you just can’t go wrong with Carl Sagan (and a dash of Hawking). His love and awe for the the universe is so infectious. Yeah, it makes me a little weepy.

The Beastie Boys “Shadrach” video reminds me of Seasme Street animation. It seems to be made from low frame rate concert footage painted or colored with pastels. The song is one of my favorite Beastie songs.

In (black) celebration to seeing Depeche Mode last night I’m posting “Enjoy the Silence.” It features lead singer Dave Gahan walking around in a king outfit with a folding lounger, enjoying the silence in remote locations. The album “Violator” is in my top ten albums of all time.
